The Oasis

A Youth Development Center
Empowering Young People in Ghana

The Oasis

Our vision for the young people in the community is for them to have the support and opportunities they need to be defined by their potential, not their circumstances.

A lot of the youth in the Volta Region of Ghana live in broken homes, are food insecure, and lack financial stability. Young people often search for risky alternative means of finding income to support themselves and their families, which leads them down a path of crime and insecurity.

Our after-school center will provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for at-risk youth to learn and grow. It will serve as a safe space for children to find a sense of belonging and mentorship that will help encourage them to continue pursuing education and remind them they are not alone.

Key Programs at The Oasis:

  • Offer support & capacity building and referrals for the well-being of youths and their families
  • Public Health Education, Computer programming, Robotics,
Storytelling, Graphic Design Filmmaking & Photography
  • Provide recreational, cultural, and sporting youth activities
  • Life skills and vocational development programs: Painting,

We need your support to provide resources for operating the After-School Center in our community. We have the property secured for this project and have begun running programs since May 2023, but we’re still seeking donations to help garner all supplies necessary to run these operations.

Our goal of $7,500 is to build an empowerment center where:

Educational workshops, individual tutoring, and after-school classes will be FREE for everyone in the community.

Students from 5 different schools within 3 villages will be impacted; projected to reach over 150+ students

with monthly; One-on-one tutoring, Filmmaking, Graphic Design, Creative Arts, Public Speaking, Public Health Education,

Computer literacy & Coding, Career development and MORE!

Every dollar counts – every donation gives a student the chance of having a safe learning environment and a sense of community that can change the trajectory of their lives.

An Itemized breakdown of what the $7,500 will pay for is available upon request.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

GODSWAY TEK AGYAGBO - Founder and Director of Programs
I am a Youth Development Specialist. I started my career as a teacher for the Happy Kids School in my hometown in the Volta Region of Ghana. My job as a teacher led me to mentor my students with the goal of keeping them engaged in school. From there, I worked as a Childcare Development Program Manager running boarding homes for vulnerable children in need of care.

In 2014, I co-founded the Volta Charity Football League with a Moroccan friend for the community boys. I coached football league teams to encourage sportsmanship, leadership, and confidence. This league birthed the first female football league in our region for non-governmental schools and organizations, which taught our girls that they are as talented and valued as their male counterparts. These two major leagues have been ongoing for 6 years and remained popular in our community until COVID-19 came.

After High School, I was unable to afford college until after 6 years when I got a sponsorship to pursue a course in Graphic Design. I also went on to take short courses in Non-Profit Governance and Operations. I continue my professional development with courses like Global Social Entrepreneurship, Advocacy, and other available courses online at Philanthropy University and Saylor Academy. I have also taken a few intensive workshops in School Leadership programs. Over the last 9 years, I have been gathering and analyzing cultural, educational, social, and entrepreneurial data to develop effective programs with schools and communities with the youth in focus.

Last year I developed my volunteer tourism program to bring visitors with skills to support programs with needs. I have collaborated with local schools and communities to organize youth training sessions; career and education mentorship workshops; monitor students at risk and implement youth development programs.

I am passionate about livestock farming, afro contemporary and cultural dance. I love drumming, camping and kayaking.
